I just stumbled across this newsletter and...I think we should be friends. I *also* created a list to try to hit as many ice cream shops in DC this summer as I could (I made it to 11 before fall), and the surprise winner on my list was Here's the Scoop. It's a lovely local shop, reasonable flavor selection, solid texture. If you're a fan of soft serve I would also add Little Sesame, their chocolate Turkish coffee + vanilla tahini swirl soft serve is delicious.
Okay so glad you did the hard work of testing that Cheeto cake! I would likely prefer a stronger cheesy flavor as well so may pass on this. Love the ice cream scoop adventure!!! Also I've been meaning to try L'Ardente - problem is when I'm in that area I just like to go to Love Makoto haha.
Aditi- great newsletter ! Would love to see you try some of the weird Van Leuwann collab flavors in the future. Have always wondered if they're any good.
this is a great idea!! i'm always hesitant to shell out the pint pricing for a novelty flavor in case I dont like it, but im definitely down for the challenge if they sell them in the shops - since DC now has a couple of Van Leeuwen locations.

yes saving you all a few bucks on the cake! it’s not bad, but it’s just not as novelty as they made it seem.
i haven’t tried love makoto but it looks great! totally different cuisine than Lardente but both fun vibes for sure!
